New repair for SCU fault on MG Rover cars from 2003 to 2005

7th September 2010
Here at Sterling Automotive, we believe that customer service is about action, not just words or glossy brochures and survey cards like so many of our customers have previously experienced at our larger main dealer rivals. As part of our ongoing committment to customer service, we regularly look to see what can be done to either prevent common mechanical failures or provide a more reliable and affordable fix.

With the previous generation of MG and Rover cars built up to 2005, this has lead to the introduction of a unique 5 year guarantee on head gasket replacements on cars fitted with the K' series 4 cylinder petrol engine, something which has now lead to no repeat failures in almost 4 years of offering the service on well over 400 cars. Not only has this common issue not returned but our customers are also benefiting from increased confidence, reliability and reduced servicing costs as part of the offer.

In recent months we have noticed an increasing number of faults which all trace back to faulty security control units (or SCU's as they often known). These can sometimes manifest themselves as a horn or a window not working but also sometimes result in central locking failures and alarm/immobilisation problems. The official repair has involved replacement of the SCU but as the original keepers often have not retained bar code labels for the remotes, this can often turn into a repair totally £1,000 or more at some of the big dealers. We have developed an improved quaility reconditioning of the old units which can often be carried out without distrubing existing remotes which can be achieved at a greatly reduced cost of from £350 including VAT.
Note: We are unable to guarantee our repairs on SCU units which have suffered water damage but will happily make every effort to ensure that if the unit can be saved if at all possible. Ask for further details.
